August 18, 4:30 PM, Arbor Brewing Company, Ann Arbor
No charge to attend, but registration is required
You are invited to a free AIA/WCA education and networking session on Thursday, August 18 at Arbor Brewing Company. At this event AIA and WCA Members will have the opportunity to network together and participate in an education session on Ethics in Design and Construction.
This course explores the sometimes murky waters of ethics as it relates to our professional responsibilities to clients, consultants, colleagues, our companies, and the public at large. We will begin by defining ethics and their intended influence on every day practice. We will look at the various ethical codes and standards and how they compare. We’ll review real world situations to help us recognize when an ethical challenge is presenting itself. We will review case studies illustrating how ethical behavior can help us through difficult dilemmas. Finally, we will examine how ethical decisions reflect on us and our professions.
Learning objectives for this session include:
Explain what ethics are, and why they are important
Identify ethical dilemmas with every aspect of our profession, including clients, colleagues, and the public
Analyze how to apply a Professional Code of Ethics to actual work situations
Implement strategies to transform ethical dilemmas into successful outcomes
Evaluate ethical rulings from professional organizations such as the AIA and NCARB
This presentation will offer 1 LU (HSW) for continuing education credit for AIA members.
