AIA Huron Valley is pleased to host a tour on Thursday June 13th of the historic DKE Shant that is the new home of Redeemer Ann Arbor. Geoff Perkins of Perkins Construction and Gary Cooper of Cooper Design, along with Bart Bryant and Jim Mong of Redeemer Ann Arbor will provide us with the story and tour of the conversion of this architecturally significant building for use by Redeemer.

Parking: Parking garages and metered parking is available downtown. Note: William Street is under construction and other streets downtown are blocked and traffic is redirected. Please plan ahead so you can arrive in advance of 4:30.

Continuing Education: This tour will be accredited for 1.25 LU/HSW continuing education credit.
Discuss the challenges of remodeling the exterior of this building with regard to the Historic District Commission standards and review of the repaired stained glass windows, ADA lift added to the front, and fire stairs rebuilt on the back.
Discuss the challenges of working on a project in Ann Arbor that never had an approved site plan and solutions that were presented to the City to address the potential problem of adding more than 200 SF of basement space.
Discuss the challenges of converting space with fraternity symbols and meaning for use as a religious place of worship. (Stained glass windows, other DKE symbols that remain) How can Redeemer Ann Arbor add meaning and symbolism within these spaces to start their new chapter in the history of this building?
Discuss historic details that were either preserved, restored, or re-used within the building, such as the stained glass, wainscot, interior doors, etc. Discuss details that were uncovered or discovered during the construction.
