David and Im Schafer (Charles and Ray Eames Lecture)
When
Tuesday, April 15, 2014
Location
University of Michigan Taubman School of Art and Architecture Auditorium (Rm 2104)
According to their website "Studiomake is David Schafer and Im Schafer.
We are both licensed architects and recent graduates from Cranbrook Academy of Art, where we were able to develop our understanding of objects. Our studio practice draws no lines of distinction between the structures that we design and build and the products which we conceive of and prototype. We make things because we are curious; we collaborate because two heads are always better than one.
David Marc Schafer
is a native of San Diego, California. His love for tooling came early: as a young boy he discovered the latent potential of the tools in his father's garage. In their efforts emerged a pursuit for mechanical perfection, and David was energized by method, precision, and the dedicated connection between hand and tool.
David received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arizona in 2000 and is licensed by the State of California to practice architecture. David recently graduated from Cranbrook Academy of Art with an MFA from the Metalsmithing department.
Im Sarasalin Schafer
was born in Kansas and raised in Bangkok by her parents, a painter and an illustrator. Their work and life intertwined, and they inevitably shared their paintbrushes and watercolors with Im.
She moved to Tucson-- charged by the desert-- and received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arizona in 2003. She is an architect licensed by the State of California. Im holds an MFA from the Ceramics department at Cranbrook Academy of Art."
