We are now planning the fall 2025 issue of Awards, the annual journal of the Huron Valley chapter for the American Institute of Architects. This will be the 9th issue and is scheduled to be published in September.

Once again, we seek to enlist the AIAHV membership, colleagues, and friends as contributors to the journal.

Specifically we want to publish your rough diagrams and initial idea or concept sketches, the quick graphic notes that we all produce to begin a project or to quickly explain an architectural idea during the design process. We want to publish the notorious napkin sketches, idea doodles and hand drawn speculations that generate our projects.

Note that we are not looking for snazzy or finished perspectives or renderings nor for highly sophisticated, final computer rendered images. Instead we want to see the conjectures, the guesses, the quick, off-the-cuff and drawn abstract diagrams whether they ultimately worked out or not.

We expect that nearly everyone of us has a lot of these images. Now there is something you can do with them: send them to Awards.

Submission Process:

  1. Photograph your image – a phone camera photo evenly lit across the image should be fine.
  2. Include the entire page: there is no need to obscure the character of the original paper surface: the visible texture of the paper, say a napkin or whatever is just fine.
  3. The submitted drawings should be accompanied by a few sentences that describe what you were trying to achieve (circulation, some massing idea, light, a view, composition, etc.), and maybe note as to the project subject or name, if appropriate.
  4. If your diagram is associated with a real project, we encourage you to also send us a photo of the completed design: we may decide to include them.

Our deadline for submissions is Monday, June 30

We’ll review the graphics, edit the text and respond to you quickly if the final text draft is needed or if there are questions.

Any revised material will be due July 31.
